Buying At Auction
Viewing the catalogue
Catalogues for sales are published approximately one week in advance, and you may view an Auction Catalogue via the Auction pages, or request at the auction house or over the phone. In normal circumstances, we hold viewings prior to the auction to allow you to view and inspect the item you are interested in
Bid in the saleroom
Register at the front desk in advance of the auction, where you will receive a paddle number with which to bid. Take your seat in the saleroom and when you wish to bid, raise your paddle and catch the auctioneer’s attention.
Leave a commission bid
You may leave a commission bid via the website, by telephone, by email or in person at Mallams’ salerooms. Simply state the maximum price you would like to pay for a lot and we will purchase it for you at the lowest possible price, while taking the reserve price and other bids into account.
Bid over the telephone
Book a telephone line before the sale, stating which lots you would like to bid for, and we will call you in time for you to bid through one of our staff in the saleroom. If you can’t get to the saleroom in person, a telephone bid still allows you live participation.
Online live bidding
You can bid live online from home or anywhere you fancy via the-saleroom.com
Please be aware that online bidding via the-saleroom.com costs an extra 6% plus VAT of the final selling price.
Overseas bidders
Overseas clients will need to provide proof of identity (a scan of a passport or a national ID card) and payment card details prior to the auction.
Fees
Please be aware that there is a buyer’s premium of 21% inclusive of VAT on the hammer price. For example:
Hammer price – £100.00
Premium at 17.5% of £100 = £17.50
VAT at 20% of £22.50 = £3.50
Total price – £121
Payments
Bank Transfer, Cheque, Debit card.
Credit card and Cash to a maximum of £2000.00.
Postage
Barry L Hawkins have limited shipping facilities and can post small unbreakable items upon request we will provide you with a quote but bigger item can suggest companies to assist with this.
